Racism is a sin

Writer's picture: Matt LaytonMatt Layton

Racism has once again been thrust to the forefront of American conscience. I want to be very clear, racism is sin. It is offensive to God who created us all and sent his Son, Jesus Christ to die for us all. It is offensive to basic human reasoning and logic.

Like every sin there are people who approve of it and practice it. The morals of cultures and societies shift and change but God does not. This is why it is important to understand racism is not wrong because any person decided it was, it is wrong because it is repulsive to God.

I pray for healing in this nation, that the wounds would be bound up and that all would come to repentance.

1 Corinthians 1:10-13

Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.  For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you.  Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.”  Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
