So that we may live (forever)

Updated: Apr 12, 2020

Why the body? Why God in the flesh, a mortal body? Why a bodily death and resurrection?

Jesus is the bread of life. His body was bruised for our iniquities. His flesh striped by the lash so that we might be healed. It is his blood poured out for our sin. It was his body that walked out of the grave.

Why the body?

Because we will be resurrected bodily as he was. We will be raised up in a new perfected body not tainted by a sin. A body made to dwell with Jesus forever. A body that will never die.

Jesus became the first of many, he made a way for us to follow. As you take Communion, remember the body that was broken and the blood that was shed; so that you may live forever.

Luke 24:1-8

“But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise." And they remembered his words,”

Romans‬ ‭6:1-11‬

“What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
